چکیده

Using a two-channel model, we show that the number of closed-channel molecules in a twocomponent Fermi gas close to a Feshbach resonance is directly related to the derivative of the energy of the gas with respect to the inverse scattering length. We extract this quantity from the fixed-node Monte Carlo equation of state and we compare to the number of closed-channel molecules measured in the Rice experiment with lithium [Partridge et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 020404 (2005)]. We also discuss the effect of a difference between the trapping potentials seen by a closed-channel molecule and by an open-channel pair of atoms in terms of an effective position-dependent scattering length. BCS-to-BEC crossover from the exact BCS solution

The BCS-to-BEC crossover, as well as the nature of Cooper pairs, in superconducting and Fermi superfluid media is studied from the exact ground state wave function of the reduced BCS Hamiltonian. As the strength of the interaction increases, the ground state continuously evolves from a mixed system of quasifree fermions and pair resonances BCS , to pair resonances and quasibound molecules pseud...

Experimental realization of BCS-BEC crossover physics with a Fermi gas of atoms

This thesis presents experiments probing physics in the crossover between BoseEinstein condensation (BEC) and BCS superconductivity using an ultracold gas of atomic fermions. Scattering resonances in these ultracold gases (known as Feshbach resonances) provide the unique ability to tune the fermion-fermion interactions. The work presented here pioneered the use of fermionic Feshbach resonances ...

Relativistic BCS-BEC crossover of a two-species Fermi gas with number density asymmetry at zero temperature

We systematically study relativistic two-species fermions with tunable attractive interactions and number-density asymmetry at zero temperature. In general, a BardeenCooper-Schrieffer (BCS) Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) relativistic BEC (RBEC) crossover is observed. A generalized BCS ground state and its stability are analyzed. The homogeneous superfluid phase can become unstable and we cons...

Molecular probe of pairing in the BEC-BCS crossover.

We have used optical molecular spectroscopy to probe the many-body state of paired 6Li atoms near a broad Feshbach resonance. The optical probe projects pairs of atoms onto a vibrational level of an excited molecule. The rate of excitation enables a precise measurement of the closed-channel contribution to the paired state. This contribution is found to be quite small, supporting the concept of...

Heat Capacity of a Strongly-Interacting Fermi Gas: Supporting Online Material

The theoretical community is in the midst of unraveling the nature of resonantly interacting fermionic superfluids (S1–S9) with particular emphasis on the strongly interacting Fermi gas (S10). In the BCS-BEC crossover picture (S11), the strongly interacting Fermi gas is intermediate between the weak coupling BCS and BEC limits. In addressing the nature of the excitations from the conventional m...
